Music at Haddenham Community Junior School
At Haddenham Community Junior School over a quarter of the pupils are learning to play a musical instrument. Almost the full range of orchestral instruments is taught. Recorders are taught as part of the Year 3 music curriculum. This year, as part of the Wider Opportunities Funding, all Y4 children will have class xylophone lessons. Other instruments are taught by peripatetic teachers from the Aylesbury Music Centre.
Lessons (excluding recorders) currently cost £160 per year, payable in advance.
Monthly music assemblies are held to give the children an opportunity to perform in front of the school.
An evening concert is held in the summer term when the children get the chance to show off all that they have learnt.
School will need to know in the summer term if your child wishes to learn an instrument the following September as we are allocated a set number of teaching sessions by Aylesbury Music Centre
Y2 parents can request that their children play a specific instrument although Y3+ children will have priority to take up the teaching sessions available. Any spare places for instruments will be announced in assembly in the September term and the new Y3 children will have the opportunity to apply for one of those.
In the summer term Y3 children will have the opportunity to audition for instrument lessons. Some children will not yet have long enough arms for the flute or the right shaped mouth for the trumpet!
